“Sim U”
Why industry leaders are choosing simulation over the School of Hard Knocks
In 2002 the U.S. Military executed “Millennium Challenge”, a war-game unprecedented in scale, complexity and cost (this simulation’s budget, at $250 million, surpasses some countries’ entire defense spending).
You may have heard the media reports about the unexpected and disturbing outcome. The exercise pitted the might of the American Military (Blue Team) against a rogue Middle Eastern leader bent on asserting his dominance in the region (Red Team). Much to the Military’s chagrin, Red Team’s creative deployment of its limited resources reaped unimaginable chaos and destruction. Within 24 hours, 19 fictional US battleships lay mangled at the bottom of the Persian Gulf, their crews entombed in watery graves.
